2018 Lilli Trippe Memorial Shave
In 2011, a beautiful tradition began at the Northwest String Summit. It all started with Lilli Trippe, a little girl who loved music, dancing, and Yonder Mountain String Band. For most of her short life, Lilli fiercely battled childhood cancer. In July of 2011, just a few days before her 4th birthday, Lilli passed away. Since then, every year on String Summit Sunday we honor our little friend Lilli by hosting a head shave while the rest of the crowd gets “Frilli for Lilli” by dressing up in their best Sunday Pink. This year, The Lilli Trippe Memorial Shave is proud to support Chelsea’s Closet- a local nonprofit that inspires hope and healing through dress up and therapeutic play in Pacific NW hospitals- giving seriously ill children the opportunity to dance like princesses and fly like superheroes.
Music photographer, part time stand up comedian and former mayor of the band moe.'s nation of fans - Rex Thomson has agreed to be our next head of hair to be sacrificed to the greater good. He has lost friends to cancer and recently saw one of his favorite players, Robert Derhak from moe. fight the battle against this dreaded disease. Rex decided he wanted to help at the 2017 String Summit and stopped trimming his hair or beard right then and there. He's vowed to raise money from then til the 2018 String Summit, with his goal being to raise more than anyone before or after him! With his crazy drive, evidenced by his five year crusade to win the mayorship before this, as an indicator...he just may do it!
The Shave Rex 2018 campaign officially begins now!
Please join us this year as Rex Thomson shaves his head to support Chelsea’s Closet and to bring awareness to this awful disease. Please help Rex reach his goal by donating directly, by coming out to the NWSS, and by dancing your tutu off. We promise, Lilli will be right there, dancing with you.
